The #1 Mistake People Make With the Cayenne Pepper Diet

WrongThe Cayenne Pepper Diet is a ten-day fast in which you drink a lemonade drink made of lemon juice, maple syrup, cayenne pepper and water. Also know widely as the Master Cleanse, this (surprisingly tasty) drink will detoxify your body, help you lose pounds of accumulated waste in your colon, and help with losing unwanted weight.

Many people just starting the Cayenne Pepper Diet make a crucial mistake. It’s a simple enough one, but it can render the cleanse almost worthless. This is the number # mistake cleansers make:

Attempting the cleanse using ingredients that are not of sufficient quality.

I know the lemonade seems simple enough, and many people will save money or time by settling for cheap substitutes, but the quality of the cayenne pepper diet recipe is incredibly important.

The quality of the maple syrup is vital. You must use Grade B maple syrup, preferably organic. You can also use Grade A syrup. The grades roughly correspond to the season when the sap was harvested from the maple tree. Grade B syrup is later in the season and is very dark with a strong maple flavor and a hint of caramel. It’s chock full of essential nutrients. Try to find that if you can. Please don’t substitute table syrup (also known as pancake syrup) … it’s just refined sugar with maple flavoring. Absolutely worthless for your cleanse.

You can purchase good maple syrup locally at a health food store or check your supermarket. Many markets offer the organic 100% pure maple syrup in the same aisle as the table syrup. You can expect to pay $8 – $10 per 32 ounces, which will last you four days on the cleanse. Buy several bottles. While this might seem pricey, consider that you won’t be eating food for ten days and will be saving money on that.

Buy fresh lemons only – do not purchase concentrated lemon juice! If you can find it, organic is the best. Fresh squeezed lemon juice is also far more tasty than bottled. I have found that the lemonade keeps for a couple of days but I prefer making mine daily as it tastes better. Consider buying a juice extractor if you can afford it. You will be juicing a lot of lemons. If you don’t have one and don’t want to buy one, you can just use a wooden juicer.

Last, but certainly not least, is the quality of the water. Please use only FILTERED water for your cleanse. You do not need to buy bottled water, and in many cases bottled water is just tap water. Buy a Brita filter, or use the filter system you may already have in your water supply or fridge. Fresh, pure, clean water is vital to your health and well being. Remember … you are planning on ridding your body of toxins and impurities. You want to replace the water in your body with only the best.

By taking care with your ingredients and buying the best quality for the Cayenne Pepper Diet, you can have a successful cleanse that will leave you feeling like a brand new person. If you have never cleansed before, then you should realize that the cleanse is great for you because the lemonade drink gives your body the proper nutrients and calories to function, yet still purifies the body at the same time.

A Diet By Any Other Name: How The Master Cleanser Became Known As The Lemon Cleanse And The Lemonade Diet

Known by many different names, the lemon cleanse, the Lemonade Diet, or master cleanser was first used to detoxify the body. More recently it has become better known as a great way to lose weight fast.

Created by Stanley Burroughs, a man dedicated to alternative health options, the master cleanse was mentioned in his first book, Healing for the Age of Enlightenment. In 1976, Burroughs dedicated a book entirely to the detox method called The Master Cleanser.

This book is still available today and although only 50 pages (it sells for $6. 50), it gives complete details on exactly what you need to do before, during and after going on the master cleanse.

Basically, you do not eat any solid foods for 10 days. Instead you drink a mixture of the juice of a half a lemon, 2 tablespoons of grade B maple syrup and 1/10th teaspoon of cayenne pepper mixed in 8 ounces of water. If you don’t like maple syrup, you can substitute agave. You drink this mixture 6 to 12 times a day.

With the main ingredients listed above, it wasn’t long before this procedure become better known as the lemonade diet, the maple syrup diet and even the cayenne pepper diet. The combination of lemon juice, maple syrup and pepper may seem frivolous but each item has its own purpose.

The lemon juice provides vitamin C, minerals and improves the pH balance of the body. Maintaining a healthy pH level and keeping the alkaline levels on an even keel helps the body build its immunity system. Unprocessed honey is high in zinc, minerals and manganese and provides some calories during the fast. The cayenne pepper stimulates your metabolism and helps with circulation.

Author Peter Glickman brought the master cleanse back into the public eye in 2005 with his book Lose Weight, Have More Energy and Be Happier in 10 Days. More recently, popular singer and entertainer Beyonce used the master cleanse to lose weight for her role in the movie Dream Girls. Reportedly Beyonce went on the plan for 14 days and lost 22 pounds.

It is important to read The Master Cleanser before starting this program. There is vital information that you must follow to protect your health during this fast as well as what you need to do to prepare for it before you start. Glickman’s book lists the 12 most common reasons that people have problems completing the fast and what you can do to avoid them. It also features people who have been successful at losing weight with the infamous lemon cleanse.
